Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers says that key midfielder Jordan Henderson will still have a key role to play in the Merseysiders’ final push for the Premier League title this season, despite the player being suspended for the club’s next three fixtures, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The all-action England international has been in brilliant form all campaign long for Rodgers and the Reds, with the youngster’s energy and assists going a long way towards helping the club to the top of the Premier League standings with now just four fixtures left to play this season.

However, the midfielder’s red card against title rivals Manchester City in the Premier League at Anfield last Sunday for a late, studs-up tackle on Samir Nasri now means that Henderson will be suspended from the Merseyside giants’ next three league outings, starting with their trip to take on struggling Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday afternoon.

But Rodgers is insistent that the player will still have a key role to play in these next three encounters, even though the Englishman will not actually be involved in any of them.

“Yes it was heartbreaking, considering the season he’s had,” said Rodgers.

“But okay, even though we’ll lose him on the field we can’t lose his personality off the field as well which is why he’ll still travel and be a part of what we’re doing.

“Jordan will still travel with the team. I’ve told him he’s a vital member of the group and he might not be able to effect the next three games on the field but he’s going to be very important for our changing room, our travelling and our hotels because he’s very much a part of us.”
