Man City are reportedly scouting Everton centre-back John Stones as a potential replacement for captain Vincent Kompany with Etihad Stadium boss Manuel Pellegrini surprisingly considering axing the Belgian according to Football Direct News.

19 year old Goodison Park starlet Stones has been in excellent form this term, playing a key role in a recent run of form that has seen Roberto Martinez’s side challenge Arsenal for fourth spot.

Indeed Stones is even an outside bet for a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup squad though is yet to win his first senior England cap.

Pellegrini will see Joleon Lescott leave the club when his contract expires this summer whilst veteran Martin Demichelis has been error prone in his debut season in the Premier League. Youngster Matija Nastastic is yet to make a real impact in English football and as such a move for Stones may be on the cards regardless of any intention to sell Kompany.

Toffees boss Martinez may well fear a number of his top talents could be targeted by ‘bigger’ sides with the likes of Ross Barkley, Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines also sure to have more than their fair share of suitors.
