The Red Devils are set for a major overhaul of their first-team squad at Old Trafford when the summer transfer window does finally reopen for business at the start of July after what has been a hugely disappointing debut campaign in the north west for new head coach David Moyes.

As a result, the Scot has been busy scouring the market in Europe in recent weeks as he looks at potential new signings for next season, with Moyes having traveled with chief scout Jim Lawlor to Portugal on Thursday night to watch Benfica take on arch-rivals FC Porto in the second leg of their Portuguese Cup semi-final at the Estadio Dragao.

And the player that the duo were running their eye over in the Portuguese capital was the home side’s Argentina international, with Perez having enjoyed an excellent campaign in the centre of the park for Benfica with three goals and four assists to his name in his 25 league outings for the club.
