It appears Man United can’t wait for this disastrous season to come to an end so that under-fire boss David Moyes can spend large sums on much needed new additions to boost his Old Trafford squad.

The Independent claims that David Moyes has earmarked moves for FC Porto duo Eliaquim Mangala and Jackson Martinez as well as Southampton’s Luke Shaw, three players that could well set Man United back as much as £111m.

Moyes may well see Mangala, who has a £37.8m release clause, as a replacement for exit bound pair Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic though Man United will hope to land the rock solid 22 year old French international for a lot less.

A move for Shaw is no doubt designed to bring in a long term successor to Patrice Evra, who like the aforementioned duo is also set to see his contract expire, though Southampton are looking for as much as £30m for the 18 year old England international.

Whilst a move to refresh an ageing back-line makes a great deal of sense it’s not immediately clear as to why Moyes would need to bring in another striking option.

That isn’t to say Colombian Martinez, who’s release clause requires a £34m bid to be triggered, isn’t a fine prospect more that Man United have more than enough options in that regard.

Moyes can call upon Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez up front so unless there are plans to sell one or more of the quartet of Man United strikers there seems little urgency in signing another forward this summer, not whilst other areas are in more drastic need of addressing.
