The Old Trafford side will seek to discuss terms with Shaw as soon as possible with chief executive Ed Woodward ready to meet representatives of the player and his St Mary’s employers.

One obstacle in pursuit of the 18 year old England international could come in the form of Chelsea with the Stamford Bridge side also said to be keen on Shaw, who is a Blues fan.

Man United want to bring in Shaw before the World Cup finals with the left-back likely to be in Roy Hodgson’s squad for his summer’s finals in Brazil.

Mauricio Pochettino may struggle to keep of hold of the nucleus of his Saints side, who are nicely placed in the top half of the Premier League table.

One imagines that there will be interest in the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Jay Rodriguez and right-back Callum Chambers.
