Chelsea have set their sights on Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels as Jose Mourinho prepares to sell David Luiz.

Football Direct News claim that Blues boss Mourinho sees German International Hummels as a player who can boost his back-line as he looks to bring in fresh options to strengthen his squad.

Mourinho signed youngster Kurt Zouma in January but the French youngster may be more of a long term prospect rather than a player he intends to field next term and with John Terry set to see his contract expire there is perhaps a pressing reason to sign a new central defender.

The 25 year old is a consistent performer who may feel the time is right to leave the Westfalenstadion having seen a host of the club’s top performers leave in recent seasons.

Shinji Kagawa and Mario Gotze have left for pastures new and Robert Lewandowski has already agreed a move to join domestic rivals Bayern Munich and the fact that the Bavarian side are country mile clear of Borussia Dortmund could also lead Hummels to consider a move to Chelsea.

The fact that he would secure a big pay-rise would also be a motivating factor in relation to a possible move to Stamford Bridge.
