Carrick could be one of a number of first team players set for an Old Trafford exit as Man United look to rebuild after a horrendous season and with just a year to run on his current deal the 32 year old wouldn’t cost Spurs a great deal.

Man United signed the former West Ham man in an £18m deal back in June 2006 and has racked up 354 appearances for the club and though in the past he has proven a hugely important member of the first team set-up thus far this term he has proven largely ineffective.

Carrick spent two seasons at Tottenham and may feel a fresh challenge at the north London club a tempting prospect.

Fellow long serving Man United stars Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra are all expected to leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the current campaign.
