Paulinho linked up with the north London outfit from Brazilian club Corinthians last summer, but despite making 27 appearances for the club this season his performances have come under some severe scrutiny lately.

The 25-year-old has found it difficult to adapt to the Premier League and Paulinho has been linked with making a move away from White Heart Lane this summer, with many believing that a loan deal with a view to buy permanently will be the most likely scenario.

Sources in Italy are now claiming that the midfielder is on the verge of agreeing a season long loan to Roma with the move going ahead after the player returns from World Cup duty with Brazil in his native country this summer.

The midfielder was one of the seven players to be signed by Tottenham following the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, alongside Roberto Soldado, Christian Eriksen, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Erik Lamela.

Roma are looking to bring in a number of new faces this summer in a bid to make a stronger challenge for the Scudetto next term.
