Barcelona continue to track long term target David Luiz and are ready to mount a fresh bid for the Chelsea man according to Spanish source Sport.

The Nou Camp side are ready to offer €35m (£28m) for the 26 year old Brazilian but must first hope to successfully appeal against the FIFA transfer ban that was imposed upon them earlier this month.

Luiz has been used on a limited basis by Jose Mourinho this season, handing the 26 year old just 15 starts out of 35 Premier League fixtures, and in a similar situation to Juan Mata it seems that the Chelsea manager is ready to cash-in on a player who is not a significant part of his plans.

Mourinho is keen to adopt a sensible approach during the transfer window and will look to trim his squad ahead of bring in a fair few new additions, much as he did in January.

Luiz played a key role in Chelsea’s Champions League and Europa League triumphs but may now feel the time is right to leave the west London club and a move to replace veteran Carles Puyol at Barcelona is sure to tempt the former Benfica man.
