Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti is looking to bring in a high-profile replacement for Karim Benzema, who will be made available for a fee in the region of £35m, and the Italian wants to sign former Atletico Madrid ace Aguero.

The 25 year old Argentine has been a big hit since completing a £38m move to the Etihad Stadium back in the summer of 2011 and only recently signed a lucrative new long term contract so there seems little chance Man City would be looking to sell the prolific forward.

Aguero has racked up 16 goals in 20 Premier League appearances during a season that has been marred by injury issues and has scored a total of 73 goals in 117 appearances for Man City.

Ancelotti may well feel Aguero is better suited to the central striking role at Real Madrid, where he’d be supported in a front three with Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo being used in wide-attacking spots.

Prior to his move England Aguero proved hugely successful at the Vicente Calderon where he managed to score 101 goals in the course of five seasons at the club.
