The original ban would have left Barcelona unable to conduct transfers for two transfer windows so whilst the suspension of the ban means the club are able to do as they please when the summer transfer window opens they could still fail in that appeal process.

FIFA had also censured the Spanish football federation (RFEF) for failing to prevent the breaches and were hit with a similar financial penalty to Barcelona.

The investigations uncovered instances of several minor players who were incorrectly registered who have subsequently participated in competitions with the club between 2009 and 2013.

A FIFA statement said: ‘The chairman of the FIFA appeal committee considered that the appeal lodged by the club is to be granted suspensive effect.’
