Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to use Real Madrid’s apparent interest in Brazilian David Luiz as scope for a move to bring in highly rated defender Raphael Varane to Stamford Bridge according to Football Direct News.

26 year old Luiz has been something of a bit-part player this term, starting less than half the club’s Premier League fixtures and more recently used as a defensive midfield option.

Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen on bringing in the former Benfica man to boost his options at the back and may just be willing to offer 20 year old French international Varane in part exchange.

Varane rose to prominence under Mourinho’s Real Madrid rein but doesn’t appear to enjoy the same confidence with Ancelotti, who has barely used the youngster.

Mourinho is looking to build for the future and with Luiz on his way out and John Terry’s Chelsea contract set to expire in the summer there is certainly a need to consider defensive additions.

Chelsea did sign defender Kurt Zouma in January, before loaning him back to Saint-Etienne, but arguably Varane is far more advanced in his development and is certainly able to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.
