Former boss set for Old Trafford return?

Man United are considering a move to re-appoint Sir Alex Ferguson as Old Trafford boss as the club’s owners draw up possible options following the sacking of David Moyes yesterday.

CaughtOffside understands that the Glazers may approach Ferguson as a short term solution if they fail to land any of their top managerial targets and should Ryan Giggs perform well in Man United’s final four fixtures of the season then they may elect to bring in the veteran Scot to act as a mentor for next season.

Sir Alex Ferguson is said to feel responsible for the failure of David Moyes to succeed him as Man United boss, not least as he hand selected the former Everton manager, and as such the 72 year old could be persuaded to take the hot-seat in a season long role.

The Glazers may feel that with Ferguson and Giggs working in tandem in 2014/15 that the pair could steady the ship for the next campaign whilst providing the Welshman the chance to get to grips with a senior role.

Man United’s failure to secure Champions League football will greatly affect the level of quality they can expect to lure in the summer transfer window and therefore the return of such a vaunted figure as Sir Alex Ferguson could help in their pursuit of world-class signings.

Such a move would show a level of stability the club requires after the ten month long reign of failure David Moyes presided over.

Man United’s supporters would also no doubt welcome such a move and Ferguson could then helpfully offer Giggs, as well as coaches Phil Neville and the returning Paul Scholes, priceless knowledge and experience that could stand the club in good stead for years to come.
