The Old Trafford side will offer the 62 year old a three year deal that would commence following the 2014 World Cup finals and should they fail to lure the experienced boss then they will turn to other targets, which include Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone, Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Van Gaal has won seven domestic titles in three countries and has led giants Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich and is therefore more than qualified to take the reins at Man United though clearly his age would suggest he’d be only a short to medium term option.

Moyes was sacked yesterday morning after a disastrous campaign that left Man United failing to secure a Champions League berth and racking up a club record 11 Premier League defeats with a poor seventh placed finish on the cards.
