German is contracted to his club until June 2017.
Both Manchester United and Arsenal are set to miss out on the signature of highly rated SC Freiburg centre-back Matthias Ginter after Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund stole a march on the duo in the race to land the German this summer, according to reports in the Daily Express.
The Red Devils and the Gunners have each been keeping close tabs on the Germany international of late with a view to luring Ginter to the Premier League for next season, with both sides currently in desperate need of a new central defender.
In fact, it had been widely assumed that the Premier League champions would be landing the 20-year-old this summer after the former United head coach David Moyes was spotted in the crowd at Freiburg watching Ginter in action first hand back in March.
However, the Scot’s subsequent dismissal from his role at Old Trafford has now brought a temporary end to United’s interest in the defender, and it now seems that the north London club will also not be signing Ginter next season after it emerged that Dortmund had begun moves to land the player for £8m.
