The England international has largely found himself being surplus to requirements at the Theatre of Dreams so far in this campaign under the recently sacked Red Devils boss David Moyes, with Welbeck spending more time warming the substitutes’ bench than actually on the field of play.

As a result, rumours began to circulate in the press over the weekend claiming that the striker had grown disillusioned with life at the Premier League champions this season and as such wanted to leave the north west when the summer transfer window reopened for business.

And now it is believed that the Toffees manager is keen to lure the 23-year-old to Merseyside as a replacement for Belgium international Romelu Lukaku, with the giant forward set to return to his parent club Chelsea when his season-long loan spell comes to an end next month.
