The Northern Irishman is set to be handed a massive £50m transfer war chest by the club’s American owners the Fenway Sports Group when the season finally draws to a close in order for the Reds to rebuild their first-team squad for the challenges of playing in next season’s Uefa Champions League.

And the main area of concern for Rodgers at present is said to be his leaky back four, with the young manager understood to be eyeing up summer moves for in-demand Schalke 04 centre-back Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Sporting Lisbon’s versatile defender Marco Rojo as his first two bits of business.

Rodgers tried to lure Schalke’s massive Greek international to Anfield in the previous summer transfer window, however, with the 22-year-old having only just recovered from a serious knee-ligament injury at that point, no deal could be agreed between the two clubs regarding a suitable asking price for the youngster.

Meanwhile, the Reds are also keen on Rojo because the Argentina international is capable of playing both as a left back and in the centre of the defence too.
