Roma Now Join Race To Sign Spurs Defender Jan Vertonghen

Italians’ sporting director Walter Sabatini has already enquired about the 27-year-old’s availability. 

Serie A high-flyers AS Roma have now become the latest club to have expressed an interest in signing unsettle Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen for next season, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The coveted Belgium international is currently being tracked by a whole host of big-name clubs from across the Continent, including the likes of La Liga champions FC Barcelona and Russian Premier League giants Zenit St Petersburg, who are now being managed by the former Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas.

However, it now appears as though the Romans, who are at present lying in second place in the Serie A standings behind leaders and champions Juventus, are also keen on landing Vertonghen when the summer transfer window reopens for business.

And with Rudi Garcia’s outfit certain of qualifying for next season’s Uefa Champions League, a competition which the central defender has made clear he wants to be playing in next season, Roma will be confident of being able to persuade the Belgium to swap the English for the Italian capital in the next campaign.
