Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has said that he is confident that coach Carlo Ancelotti will rebuff any approach made by Manchester United this summer as they search for a new long term manager following David Moyes’ sacking earlier this week, according to Goal.com.

The Italian tactician is just one name on a list of potential replacements for Moyes, and is joined in the running by Holland coach Louis Van Gaal, who is said to be very interested in taking the post.

However, Calderon expects the former Milan boss to stay in the Spanish capital even if United do actually make an approach for his services this summer.

“I believe Carlo Ancelotti will be with Real Madrid next season,” he said. “He’s got a contract.

“We don’t know what’s happening with Manchester United.”

Calderon also admitted that United’s decision to sack Moyes was the right call after the string of embarrassing results over the course of the season have now meant that the club will now definitely miss out on qualification for next season’s Champions League.

“It’s always a pity when you have to sack a coach,” he remarked. “I had that problem with Fabio Capello.

“Sometimes you have to take those decisions, though. Manchester United’s results have not been normal so it’s a decision they had to take.”
