Liverpool are reportedly preparing a surprise bid for Arsenal winger Theo Walcott as Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers looks to mount a summer spending spree according to Football Direct News.

Rodgers is set to be handed a big transfer war-chest and has earmarked a move for 25 year old England man Walcott as he looks to bring in a winger to help support strike-pair Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

By all accounts Walcott was a Liverpool fan when growing up but whether that’s enough to lead the Gunners star to force a move to the Merseyside club is another matter.

Rodgers is unlikely to make the temporary signing of Victor Moses from Chelsea a permanent one and Oussama Assaidi, currently on loan at Stoke City, will probably be sold so there is scope for a wide-man signing though a move for Walcott may be a tad too ambitious as Arsenal are unlikely to entertain offers for the former Southampton man.

Walcott is into his ninth season at Arsenal and arguably is still yet to deliver the goods on a consistent basis though when fully fit the attacker has done well this term.

Thus far this season Walcott has scored six goals having started just 13 fixtures in all competitions.
