Arsenal manager Arsenal Wenger has refused to deny reports that he is keen on signing Queens Park Rangers forward Loic Remy this summer.

Olivier Giroud, who has netted 14 goals in 33 Premier League starts, is the only Arsenal player that has reached double figures in the top flight so far this season.

The Gunners frontline is in dire need of strengthening this summer, with the out-of-contract Nicklas Bendtner set to be released.

Remy has spent the season on loan at Newcastle United, for whom he has netted 13 goals in 24 league appearances.

His loan period at St James’ Park is due to expire in June, when he will return to QPR. Although he has three years remaining on his Loftus Road contract, he is likely to leave the Championship side this summer, even if Harry Redknapp’s men secure promotion.

Arsenal and North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are among the sides that have been credited with an interest in Remy, but Gunners boss Wenger was coy when quizzed about his position on the 27-year-old.

“He is a good striker. But we are focused on the end of the season, not on strikers,” Wenger told Sky Sports.

Wenger’s Arsenal, who host Newcastle on Monday night, are in pole position to finish fourth and claim the final Champions League qualifying spot, following Everton’s 2-0 defeat at Southampton on Saturday.
