Man City continue to pursue Malaga keeper Willy Caballero as Manuel Pellegrini targets the £20m rated keeper as a challenger to Joe Hart’s first team berth according to the Daily Star.

The Etihad Stadium side had been keen on bringing in Barcelona’s Victor Valdes but a long term injury suffered by the Spanish international has led Pellegrini to re-ignite his interest in Argentine Caballero.

Pellegrini is said to have already opened talks with Caballero, who he knows well from his time in charge of the La Liga side, and will hope to secure a deal to bring in the 32 year old.

Though highly rated one has to wonder about Cabellero’s ability to unseat England international Hart, we are after all talking about a 32 year old who is still to win a single senior cap for his country.

Hart was dropped earlier in the campaign after a few shaky displays but has returned to something like his best form of late and as such it’s a tad surprising that Pellegrini would be continuing to court a potential replacement.
