Besiktas director of football Onder Ozen has admitted that Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott remains one the Turkish club’s shopping list this summer.
While the England centre back has been linked with a number of clubs with Betfair fans, a move abroad has long been mooted by Lescott, who has been aware his time at the Etihad appears to be coming to an end.
Lescott’s contract at Manchester City expires at the end of the season and the defender doesn’t look like being offered a new deal by manager Manuel Pellegrini before the summer. With recent reports linking Lescott with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, Betfair visitors are still indicating the former Everton player will stay in England.
Besiktas has been linked with a summer move for Lescott among Betfair tipsters for some time and Ozen has confirmed that Lescott remains a target for the club despite rival interest in the defender.
“Lescott is still on our transfer wish list. Everything will become clear at the end of the season, players will be leaving and arriving but I don’t want to disclose too much information yet,” said the Besiktas director of football.
Lescott has found regular first team football hard to come by under Pellegrini. The centre back has been an important part of the City side since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium from Everton in 2009, but the arrival of Pellegrini has seen Lescott drop down the pecking order.
With the World Cup coming up this summer, Lescott knows his hopes of making Roy Hodgson’s squad have been dented by his limited first team appearances this season.
City, meanwhile, are expected to make a number of additions to their defensive ranks this summer while losing the likes of Lescott and Micah Richards.
