Champions League semi-finalists prepare bid for Tim Krul as they plan for life without on-loan Chelsea stopper.
La Liga title favourites Atletico Madrid have identified Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul as a top summer transfer target, report talkSPORT.
Diego Simeone’s side boast the best defensive record in Spain’s top division this season, having kept 20 clean sheets in 35 matches.
A major factor behind the success of Atletico’s backline has been the fine form of Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who is currently on loan from Chelsea.
Courtois is rated highly at Stamford Bridge and he could be given the chance to challenge Petr Cech for a starting role with the Blues next season.
Atletico are keen to secure Courtois’ services for a third successive campaign, but they are aware that this may not be possible and are already making plans for life without the 21-year-old
According to talkSPORT, Atletico sent sporting director Jose Luis Caminero to England to watch Krul during Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat at Arsenal on Monday night.
The radio station also claims that the Madrid club are preparing a £10m bid for Krul, who has three years remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park.
Krul, 26, has been capped five times by the Netherlands at senior international level and he could make his first appearance at a World Cup this summer.
