Toffees host the Blues on Saturday in a fixture of huge importance to their city rivals.

Everton midfielder Leon Osman has promised the Merseysiders’ arch rivals Liverpool that they will do everything in their power to beat Manchester City in the Premier League at Goodison Park this weekend and hand the Reds a title lifeline in the process, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The Blues are now the favourites to win this season’s Premier League title after Chelsea overcame Brendan Rodgers’s side 2-0 at Anfield on Sunday afternoon to blow the title race wide open.

And now as a result of that slip up, City can claim win the Premier League by registering victories in their next three league games, starting at Everton on Saturday evening in front of the live TV cameras.

However, the Toffees’ England international has promised Liverpool that they will be going all out for a win this weekend against Manuel Pellegrini’s side, with the home side themselves still with plenty to play for this season.

Everton go into the fixture in fifth place in the table, four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the race for the last remaining qualifying berth for next season’s Uefa Champions League, but now with just two games left to play this season, meaning nothing but the three points will do against City.

“We’re professionals and it’s what we do. It’s a big game at Goodison and we want to enjoy it and win it,” said Osman.

“City needed to rely on a slip-up by Liverpool to give them a chance so they’re probably favourites now and it’s up to us to stop them.

“A lot of clubs will be watching this game very closely but we’ve got to put all that out of our minds and do what we always do and go into the game to win.

“While it’s still mathematically possible we’ll be aiming to achieve it (a top-four finish). We can only do that if we win our last two games which is what we want.

“With us playing first and being able to put the pressure back on Arsenal, it will be a good thing for us if we make sure we try and win that game.”
