Gunners striker grateful for support after topping fan vote.
Lukas Podolski has thanked Arsenal fans for their support after being named as the club’s player of the month for April.
The 28-year-old Germany international found the net four times in April, as he bagged braces during victories over West Ham United and Hull City to bring his seasonal tally to 12 goals in 24 first-team appearances.
Despite his impressive goalscoring record, Podolski has endured a difficult season at the Emirates Stadium, having missed four months of the campaign due to a hamstring injury.
However, he appears to be close to full fitness once again, having started in each of the Gunners’ last six matches in all competitions.
On Wednesday, Podolski posted a picture on Instagram, along with the message: “Being chosen as the player of the month is an honour. Thanx fans for your support! .Let’s carry on this way together. April was great – May must be as well…..”
Arsenal closed in on a top-four finish on Monday night by beating Newcastle United 3-0. The Gunners now need to win just one of their last two league games – against West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City – in order to secure their 17th consecutive season in the Champions League.
The victory over Newcastle also guaranteed that Arsenal will finish above North London rivals Tottenham for the 19th successive campaign.
