This comes amid growing speculation that the White Hart Lane side have made an approach for Ajax’s Frank de Boer as the clamour to replace Tim Sherwood increases daily.

Sherwood only replaced Andre Villas-Boas last December and has, on the whole, done a decent job but his inability to secure a top four finish as well as some slightly naive approach to dealing with the media will almost certainly see the former midfielder lose his job this summer.

Allegri was axed by AC Milan back in January after just under four years at the San Siro and has been strongly linked with a move to take over at Spurs for some time.

The 48 year old impressed during his two year stint at Cagliari which in turn led to his appointment as AC Milan boss and Allegri guided the Rossoneri to a Serie A title in his first season in charge and followed that up with steady 2nd and 3rd place finishes before being sacked earlier this term with Clarence Seedorf taking over in charge of the Italian giants.
