Ligue 1 millionaires AS Monaco and Europa League finalists Benfica will travel to Arsenal this summer to take part in the seventh edition of the Emirates Cup.

Six-time Spanish champions Valencia will also feature in the event, which will take place at the Gunners’ North London home on Saturday August 2 and Sunday August 3.

Arsenal will play Benfica and Monaco, but not Valencia, as each team plays just two games in the quirky league format.

Three points will be awarded for a win and one for a draw, while each goal scored will also earn a point.

The appearance of Monaco is likely to be the main attraction for neutral supporters.

Monaco are managed by former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri and their attack is led by Colombia star Radamel Falcao, who was bought for a whopping £52m in July 2013.

Hosts Arsenal have won the Emirates Cup three times – in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Hamburg lifted the trophy in 2008, beating Real Madrid into second place.

The New York Red Bulls, captained by Gunners great Thierry Henry, were victorious in 2011.

The tournament did not go ahead in 2012 due to the London Olympics, but it returned a year later and was won by Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Emirates Cup 2014 schedule:

Saturday August 2: Valencia vs Monaco at 2pm, Arsenal vs Benfica at 4.20pm.

Sunday August 3: Benfica vs Valencia at 2pm, Arsenal vs Monaco at 4.20pm.
