The west London club were surprisingly knocked out of the Uefa Champions League at the semi-final stage by La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid in their second-leg clash at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night 3-1 on aggregate, with the home team’s misfiring front men once again largely proving ineffective up front.

And now as a result, it is understood that the self-styled Special One has compiled a shopping list of three potential new forwards for the west Londoners’ billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich to pursue come the end of the campaign, with those targets being Atletico’s Diego Costa, Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic and Paris Saint Germain’s Edinson Cavani.

However, it is Atleti’s Brazil-born attacker who is said to be topping Mou’s wish list at present, with the Blues expected to be able to lure Costa to the capital by meeting the full value of the £32m release clause in the Spain international’s contract at the Vicente Calderon.
