Out-of-favour Liverpool front man Iago Aspas is eyeing up a return to his former club Celta de Vigo at the end of the season after what has been a miserable debut campaign at Anfield for the Spaniard, according to reports on Inside Futbol.

Aspas only joined the Merseyside giants at the end of the previous campaign, with the 26-year-old signing from La Liga strugglers Celta de Vigo in a five-year deal worth £7.7m.

However, it is safe to say that Aspas’s first season with the Reds has not gone according to plan, despite the striker having shone for his new team during last summer’s preseason.

But when it came to the real stuff, Aspas found himself spending most of the season warming the substitutes’ bench rather than actually banging in the goals for Brendan Rodgers’s high-flying outfit, with the diminutive forward largely being surplus to requirements under the Northern Irishman.

In fact, in total Asaps has managed to feature in just the 15 matches all campaign long, scoring only once in the process in an FA Cup third-round clash with Oldham Athletic at Anfield back in January.
