The current Netherlands national team boss is expected to be confirmed in his new role at Old Trafford by the middle of next week following the recent sacking of previous Red Devils coach David Moyes.

And already it is understood that the experienced Dutchman has been busy making plans for next season, with sources in Germany indicating that Van Gaal’s number one transfer target for when the summer transfer window does reopen for business will be Bayern’s Germany international forward.

Van Gaal knows Muller well from his time spent in charge at the Allianz Arena when it was the 62-year-old who gave the attacker his first-team debut in Bavaria, promoting Muller from the Bundesliga giants’ youth team, with the player himself responding well to the surprise promotion.

In fact, it is believed that Van Gaal would be the only manager that Muller would consider leaving his hometown club in order to play for.
