The Brazilian born Spanish international looks set to leave the Vicente Calderon this summer and could be on his way to the England top tier..

Chelsea have been hot favourites to land the former Villarreal man but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is ready to make a move to beat the Blues to the punch.

Having failed in his efforts to land Liverpool star Luis Suarez last summer Wenger is keen to secure a big name striker signing early in the transfer window as he looks to bring in able support for overworked Frenchman Olivier Giroud and Costa is clearly more than capable of doing even more damage to Premier League defences than the former Montpellier man.

Costa has scored 36 goals in all competitions and been pivotal in Diego Simeone side’s push for Champions League and La Liga silverware with Atletico Madrid handily placed to win both competitions in what has already been a massively successful campaign.

Should Arsenal prove successful in their pursuit of a fresh striking option, especially one of as high a calibre as Costa, then one imagines Lukas Podolski could be on his way out with the German enjoying something of a poor second season at the club.
