Liverpool’s chances of securing England centre-back Steven Caulker have been given a real boost with the Daily Express claiming that the Cardiff City man has a relegation clause in his Bluebirds contract.

The Welsh side failed to retain their Premier League status and a number of their top performers could well be set to leave, with fellow summer signing Gary Medel also said to be likely to make an imminent exit.

22 year old England international Caulker moved to join the Bluebirds in a £9m deal last summer but with his side failing to beat the drop there is every chance the youngster would look to consider his options, though former club Tottenham are believed to have first option to re-sign the player.

Rodgers worked with Caulker whilst at Swansea City and may feel he is a more able partner for Martin Skrtel than the likes of Daniel Agger and Kolo Toure though he would not come cheap as Spurs stand to receive a hefty portion of any fee Liverpool would have to pay Cardiff City.

Liverpool have conceded 46 Premier League goals this term, seven other teams have let in less including Crystal Palace, so one can well see why Rodgers would seek to shore up his defence.
