Carlo Ancelotti had been interested in Moreno as a back-up for current first choice Marcelo but the Bernabeu boss is set to keep hold of Fabio Coentrao negating the need to make a move for the 21 year old who could now be set for a move to Anfield.

Moreno has had an excellent campaign and his form has led to a call-up to the senior Spanish national team set-up having impressed at Under-21 level.

Liverpool’s first choice left-back Jose Enrique has missed most of the current campaign through injury and though John Flanagan has impressed as a replacement the Englishman is more regularly used as a right-back and as such boss Brendan Rodgers is seeking to sign a new full-back option when the transfer window re-opens.

Liverpool did business with the La Liga side last summer when they signed young midfielder Luis Alberto.
