Astori has been in fine form for the Sardinian outfit this season and was even being targeted by David Moyes while he was in charge at Manchester United earlier this season.

However, with Moyes gone, reports in Italy are strongly suggesting that Spurs will have a clear run at the Italian international, who now looks set to leave Cagliari at the end of the campaign as they look to shake up their squad.

Following a disappointing campaign in Serie A, which cost coach Diego Lopez his job, the Rossoblu are considering wide-ranging changes and Astori may be sacrificed.

The 27-year-old joined the club from AC Milan back in 2008 after he struggled to make an impact on the starting XI despite rising through the youth ranks in northern Italy.

Astori could be en route to the World Cup this summer after collecting four caps since making his debut back in 2011.

Spurs are keen to add some fresh defensive options to the squad this summer as question marks still hang over the futures of Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul.
