Everton are lining up a hopeful bid for Man City back-up performer James Milner according to the Daily Mirror.

The 28 year old England international cost Man City £26m just under four years ago but is now something of a bit-part player at the Etihad Stadium side and could therefore be tempted by a fresh challenge.

Manuel Pellegrini has handed Milner just 11 Premier League starts this season and with just a year to run on his current contract now may be the time to consider his options.

Whilst Milner is likely to make it into Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup squad his lack of playing time will surely have an impact on just how prominent role he will play in Brazil.

Having seen Gareth Barry enjoy a loan spell at Goodison Park Toffees boss Roberto Martinez will hope he can tempt Milner to make the move to Merseyside and it’s a move that could help re-ignite his career.

Everton could well be able to match Milner’s current £75k a week wage demands and the promise of regular first team football at a club on the way up and with European football to look forward to next term could well leave the former Leeds United and Newcastle United man ready to make such a move.
