Chelsea are looking to tempt Everton into selling prized asset Ross Barkley and are lining up a player plus cash offer for the England international according to Football Direct News.

The 20 year old has been in excellent form this term and may well make it into Roy Hodgson’s 2014 World Cup finals squad and could well be interested in a move to a ‘bigger’ club able to offer him Champions League action though Toffees boss Roberto Martinez would be loathed to lose the talented midfielder.

Jose Mourinho’s move to offer the Goodison Park side a striker in part exchange for Barkley is an intelligent option to pursue as Everton will see loaned in forwards Romelu Lukaku and Lacina Traore return to Chelsea and Monaco respectively and as such the Merseyside club will certainly be light up top.

However Martinez is sure to demand Lukaku over Demba Ba, who has been little more than a bit-part player at Stamford Bridge since his move to west London in January 2013.

That said the former Newcastle United man has hit a decent run of form of late and is a proven Premier League goal-scorer so in the absence of a chance of landing Lukaku the 28 year old Senegal international plus a significant cash sum could lead Everton to consider Chelsea’s advances for Barkley.
