Having seen his side throw away a three goal lead at Crystal Palace, and put in a fair few other sketchy defensive displays this term, Rodgers is understandably keen to sign players who can better protect his back-line.

Rodgers continues to track long term Liverpool target Kyriakos Papadopoulos, though the Schalke centre-back’s long running injury problems which have restricted the Greek international to just two Bundesliga starts in the last two seasons, and is also keen on reuniting with Cardiff City captain Steven Caulker, whom he signed on loan while manager at Swansea.

In terms of beefing up his option at left-back the Northern Irish manager is keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon’s Argentine international Marcos Rojo.

Though John Flanagan has excelled in a makeshift role replacing crocked Spaniard Jose Enrique, one imagines Rodgers wants to move the young England man over to his more suited position at right-back next term.

Rodgers is ready to offload the aforementioned Enrique as well as Daniel Agger and Uruguayan youngster Sebastian Coates.
