With Man United set to see veterans Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand leave the club this summer the Old Trafford side have been surprisingly linked with an interest in Cardiff City captain Steven Caulker according to Football Direct News.

Serbian international Vidic has already agreed a move to Inter Milan and 35 year old Ferdinand isn’t likely to be handed a new contract when his current one expires in a matter of weeks, so there is certainly a need to bring in reinforcements and despite the Bluebirds suffering relegation to the Championship 22 year old England international Caulker has still impressed this term.

Cardiff City know they have a fight on their hands to keep their best players and will be looking to secure at least £8m from the sale of the former Tottenham man.

Though Man United can call upon the likes of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones to fill central defensive berths both England man are arguably better suited to alternative roles at right-back and defensive midfield respectively.

Whomever comes in to act as a permanent successor to David Moyes one imagines they will be handed significant funds to help strengthen a hugely under-performing squad.
