Tottenham Hotspur will make their first move for Southampton head coach Mauricio Pochettino after the Saints play their final Premier League game of the season against champions Manchester United at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

The north London club’s current boss Tim Sherwood is expected to be relieved of his managerial duties at White Hart Lane at the end of the campaign, despite the fact that the former Tottenham midfielder was only appointed to take over from previous coach Andre Villas-Boas in the capital last December on an 18-month deal.

However, with Spurs now mathematically guaranteed to finish the campaign outside of the Premier League top four, meaning the club will not be competing in the Uefa Champions League next season, Sherwood is set to pay for that failing with his job.

And despite Ajx trainer Frank de Boer’s much-publicised recent claims that the Premier League side are keen to lure him to England for next season, in actual fact it is believed that the club’s chairman Daniel Levy in fact intends to appoint the south-coast outfit’s Argentinian trainer instead.
