The highly rated Spain international has only been with the Uefa Champions League holders for the past two years now after Bayern splashed out a whopping £31.6m in order to lure Martinez to the Allianz Arena from La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao back in the summer of 2012.

However, despite the versatile holding midfielder having enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign in Germany under head coach Jupp Heynckes, with Bayern winning an historic Treble of Bundesliga, Champions League and German Cup titles in which Martinez himself played a key role, this campaign has not gone quite according to plan for the 25-year-old under new Munich boss Pep Guardiola.

And with Martinez having not been used as many times by the former FC Barcelona manager and when he has been called upon by Guardiola it has also often been as a makeshift centre back, it is now understood that Martinez is keen to explore other options this summer.
