The north London club are currently on the look out for a long-term replacement for their experienced defensive midfielder Mikel Arteta at the Emirates next season, with the cultured Basque now 32 and not getting any younger, or quicker for that matter.
And as a result, Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger is said to be keen to check out the Saints’ own water carrier ahead of the club making a possible move for Schneiderlin when the summer transfer window reopens again for business later this summer.
Schneiderlin, 24, has enjoyed yet another fine campaign in front of the south-cost club’s back four, with the former France Under-21 international having managed to register two goals and one assist in total in his 35 matches in all competitions, all of which have come in the Premier League.
However, with Schneiderlin contracted to Southampton until June 2017, it will not be either easy or cheap for Arsenal to be able to lure the player to the capital for next season.
