Fabregas was linked with cross-city neighbours Manchester United last summer, but resolved to stay put in Catalonia, however, he has been linked with a move away from the club following a poor showing during the second half of the campaign.

The midfielder, who re-joined his boyhood club from Arsenal in 2011 for a £30m fee, has just two years remaining on his current contract with suggestions that the club could be willing to sell him on at the end of the season.

And according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Fabregas has been offered to the Premier League champions elect by a third party who is acting on behalf of the Spanish international, though it has been understood that City have no intentions of making an official approach for the 27-year-old.

Reports are also linking City with a massive offer for Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi during the transfer window, meaning that all their efforts will likely go into making that deal.
