The Czech Republic international suffered the problem during the first leg of the west London club’s Uefa Champions League semi-final with Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon last month.

And despite there initially being some suggestions that Cech could make a speedy recovery to even take his place between the posts for the second-leg clash at Stamford Bridge, in the end the 31-year-old was unable to recover in time for a contest that the home side went on to lose 3-1 to exit Europe’s premier club competition.

However, Cech should now be back to full fitness in time to take part in the club’s preseason training later this summer.

“Petr Cech successfully underwent surgery today (Wednesday) following his shoulder dislocation in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid,” said a statement on the club’s official website.

“He will be out for approximately eight to 10 weeks.”

Cech has featured in a total of 46 matches in all competitions for Chelsea, 34 of which have come in the Premier League, although there have been some suggestions of late that Belgium international Thibaut Courtois could return to the Bridge next season from his current loan spell with Atletico Madrid to become the club’s new No 1.
