Cardiff payed a club record £11m fee to land the combative midfielder last summer from Spanish side Sevilla, and he went on to become one of the club’s most consistent performers despite their slide back down to the second tier this season.

It is believed that Medel has a release clause in his contract which has been triggered by the club’s relegation, and it is now thought that Turkish giants Besiktas, along with La Liga duo Valencia and Malaga are all keeping tabs on the defensive midfield ace.

Cardiff had been hoping to keep a hold of the 26-year-old to help boost their chances of making an immediate return to the Premier League, but may have to cash in on his services as one of their most valuable players, especially if he is unwilling to ply his trade in the second tier of English football.

Medel is captain of the Chilean national side, and will feature at this summer’s World Cup, meaning that he will be able to put himself in the shop window ahead of the transfer window.
