The 25 year old is keen to leave the north London club after the upcoming World Cup finals and a move to Stamford Bridge is sure to tempt the talented Brazilian.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho apparently sees Paulinho as an ideal long term replacement for Frank Lampard and the former Corinthians man has had a steady first campaign in the English top tier.

Tottenham paid a then club record £17m for the box to box performer last July, a record that was subsequently broken twice following moves to sign Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela, but would now demand at least £20m for Paulinho, a fee Chelsea would clearly have little issue stumping up.

The relationship between Spurs chairman Daniel Levy and Chelsea’s board is apparently frosty following attempts by the west London side to land Luka Modric prior to his Real Madrid switch and things didn’t improve when Willian was stolen from the Tottenham’s grasp last summer.

Paulinho has scored seven goals in 36 appearances for Spurs this season.
