The Three Lions centre back, who can also be utilised as a right back, as well as a holding midfielder too, damaged his shoulder in the Red Devils’ final home Premier League game of the season against Hull City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

And when Jones was then forced to be stretchered off following a sickening mid-air collision with Tigers left-back Maynor Figueroa, Hodgson’s worst fears seemed set to be confirmed, especially after the player was then sent to hospital to have the injury further assessed and then X-rayed.

However, despite those scans revealing that Jones had indeed suffered some ligament damage to his shoulder, it was also confirmed that the 22-year-old had not sustained a fracture either.

And now interim United boss Ryan Giggs has been able to reveal that Jones’s injury is not as bad as was first feared, with the defender now set to be chosen as part of England’s 23-man World Cup squad that will be announced on Monday.
