Atletico Madrid are attempting to agree a deal to sign Sevilla forward Carlos Bacca, according to the Daily Star.

Bacca, 27, has scored 14 goals and provided five assists in 35 La Liga games this season.

Atletico’s pursuit of Bacca would seem to suggest that they expect to lose Spain international Diego Costa this summer.

Costa, 25, has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and the two clubs have apparently spent several months trying to strike a mutually beneficial deal.

Atletico will find it very hard to replace Costa, who has scored 35 goals in 42 La Liga and Champions League games this term.

The Daily Star report that Bacca is their top target, but that the Spanish league leaders are also keen on 24-year-old Ciro Immobile, who is co-owned by Juventus and Torino.

Chelsea are said to be keen to wrap up the signing of Costa before this summer’s World Cup, which gets underway on June 12.

His arrival at Stamford Bridge could be bad news for Demba Ba and Fernando Torres, who, between them, have contributed just nine goals in 46 league appearances this season.
