Barca are set to overhaul their squad this summer after falling short of their own incredibly high standards this season despite still being in contention to retain their La Liga crown.
Mascherano recently admitted that this weekend’s clash with Atletico Madrid could be his final stand in a Blaugrana shirt, as a number of side reportedly line up for his signature.
It has been reported that Serie A duo Juventus and Napoli are the favourites to snap him up, but in the Sport report Juve are not mentioned once.
Mascherano has worked with Napoli boss Rafa Benitez before, during the pair’s time together at Anfield, and though the 29-year-old is said to be open to working with the Spaniard again, it is a return to Liverpool that he desires most, as he hopes to see out the remainder of his career with his former side.
Mascherano is said to be available for €15m, whilst the player has a contract at Barca until June 2016 with a buyout clause of €100m.
