The Argentine has struggled in his first season in the Premier League and has come nowhere near justifying the club record £30m the White Hart Lane side invested in the former AS Roma man and as such chairman Daniel Levy may be open to a quick sale but only if he can recoup the lion’s share of the fee Spurs forked out.

Lamela’s last appearance for the north London club came last December and his record of one goal in 17 appearances in all competitions is unlikely to lead to a big money offer from Inter.

Levy invested over £110m in seven signings last summer and with the exception of Dane Christian Eriksen those additions have failed to deliver and as such Tottenham may be forced to sell before they can buy, not least as they have in fact moved further away from a coveted top four finish, pushed down to sixth by a resurgent Everton.
